Advice For Young Professionals Starting A New Job

Getting the first job is very exciting, but few recognizes that the corporate world is not anything like your college. You will be facing new challenges, barriers, and people with different objectives and attitude.

There are many valuable pieces of advice your parents and teachers will give. Such as always be honest, be punctual, respect the superiors and be courteous. Sadly, because of the rapid changes happening to companies and the rise of startup culture, they will not be able to give you up to date advice on how to navigate the corporate world all the time.

If you are someone who is about to take up the first job or just started one, here are six useful pieces of advice.

Keep a work log

Get a fresh notebook or a text file to keep note of everything important you did on a day at the office. It can include the meetings you attended, works you finished, and tasks you completed. The work log serves two important purposes. Firstly, when someone asks you when did you complete a particular work, or what were you doing on a certain day or certain time, you can immediately give the answer. Secondly, the log book can act as an 'accountability chart,' which in turn helps you procrastinate less.

Choose meetings wisely

Many top silicon valley giants are now moving in a direction towards cutting down meetings. Often, the aim and content of meetings must be something you already know. Moreover, in other cases, it might not be significant enough to influence your career. Furthermore, meetings do not always start on time. Because there will always be some, who always comes late causing you to lose precious time. So, make sure the meetings you attend are meaningful.
