Interview Tips That Helps You To Get Hired

Whether you’re getting ready for a video interview or the old-fashioned in-person kind, you’ll want to be prepared. It’s essential that you make a good impression during this crucial stage of the hiring process. There is more to getting ready than just deciding what to wear and entering an address into your GPS. There are a few pretty important steps you should take to prepare.

1. Research and reflect on the mission.

It’s not difficult to research a company’s mission ahead of time. In fact, these days, you risk coming off as unprepared if you don’t. So, spend some time online. Learn about the mission and philosophy of the company. Reflect on them. Demonstrating that you have an understanding and attachment to the heart and soul of the company could help you connect and make a good impression.

2. Explore any and all connections.

Sometimes we find ourselves interviewing for a position, or with a person, that we have some kind of connection to. For example, if you came across this opportunity through someone in your professional network, be sure to touch base with them before your interview. Reaching out to your contact could help you feel more prepared, but it’s also just courteous. Thank them for any way in which they facilitated the connection, and tell them you’re looking forward to the interview. Even if the conversation simply ends there, you’ll know you’ve done the right thing by following up with someone who helped you.

3. Prepare to answer questions that are easy to anticipate.

It’s tough to know exactly what you’ll be asked during your interview. But, you should be ready for a few likely questions. Know how you’ll respond to inquiries like “tell me about yourself” or “why do you think you’d be a good fit here?” It will help you feel prepared. You don’t want questions like these, ones you can anticipate, to throw you off.

Tips for an Effective Job Hunting

Landing a new job may sound like a great resolution for the new year. But reaching goals, and having an effective job search, involves more than just wishful thinking.

Turn your words into action with these six tips on how to really get into job search mode and have an effective job search in 2017:

1. Write out your goals.

Vague ideas won’t do. You need to create a no-nonsense, easy-to-follow document stating what you want and how you intend to go about getting it.

Without specific steps, you will be floating without direction, and this is what causes people to get off track, notes career and life coach Deborah Brown-Volkman, president of Surpass Your Dreams, Inc. In addition, steps are an excellent way to measure how close you are to achieving your resolutions.

2. Block out time.

Serious job seekers devote serious time to the endeavor.

Get out your calendar and schedule regular, uninterrupted periods during which to work on perfecting your resume, researching companies, talking to contacts, and sending off applications.

People and machines to work together in workplaces

The 20th CEO survey of multinational professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) based on 1,379 responses from 79 countries stated that people will work with machines in workplaces of the future rather than one replacing the other.

Global business leaders said that one of the biggest challenges for organizations is getting their people strategy right in an automated world where intelligent machines and robots will play an important role in most workplaces.

Middle East, Japan are new top job destinations

Gone are the days when international openings for graduates of Indian B-schools and engineering colleges were restricted to the US and the UK. Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among the countries hiring graduates from top Indian colleges, including the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Over the past five years, we have seen a definite shift. Postings in the US and the UK have become almost negligible, said Sapna Agarwal, head, career development services, IIM Bangalore. Postings in the Far East, including Singapore and Hong Kong, have increased. Japan is a new destination. The Middle East has been added as an overseas job destination.

Protectionist policies and economic distress in the West are among the reasons behind the spurt in popularity of Asian countries as job destinations among Indian graduates.

A vibrant culture, shortage of skilled workforce, proximity to home, better career prospects and flexible immigration norms are the key attractions. A number of foreign trade commissions are conducting road shows to promote opportunities for Indian students and professional in their respective countries, said Rohin Kapoor, director, Deloitte.

Questions to ask at the end of your Interview

Preparing for a job interview can be tough; you prepare your answers to a myriad of tricky questions while trying to keep your nerves from getting the best of you. While practicing your answers, be sure to think of a few questions of your own to ask during the interview. Not sure where to start? Consider the following four thoughtful questions.

1. What do you like about working here?

Right off the bat, this question creates a bit of a role reversal, as it puts the interviewer on the spot. It's a great question to ask, because it gives you greater insight into what working for the company might really be like through the eyes of the hiring manager. Listen for clues when the interviewer responds. Enthusiasm about the people or the culture are good signs that the company is a happy, welcoming place. Hesitation or a vague response might be a red flag.

2. What changes does the company anticipate in the next few years?

Asking this question demonstrates your intention to be with the company for the long haul as well as your interest in the company's success. Hiring managers want candidates who are invested in their company's long-term growth. The information you gather from the interviewer's answer can also help you formulate your answers to questions later in the interview. Try to weave together the company's future goals with your expertise, and emphasize how you plan to help the company meet its objectives.
