Xiaomi To Create 20,000 Jobs In India

Chinese technology major Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun on Monday said India was one of the important markets for the company and it aims to create 20,000 jobs in the next three years. In his address at the Economic Times Global Business Summit 2017, Lei said that the company has made major strides in a very short time. He also spoke about China’s “Internet Plus” policy which “the Chinese premier started in 2015″.”

“Internet plus action plan is a new form of economic plan where internet is integrated with traditional industries encouraging to the spirit of excellence in these industries and drive economic growth,” he said, adding the policy elevates internet to become the most important engine of growth for China’s economy and Xiaomi is one of the companies to adopt it.

Earlier on Monday, Lei said after its success in the online market in India, the company wants to take its offline presence much higher by increasing its market share to 50 per cent of Xiaomi’s total sales.

Xiaomi’s current portfolio in India reveals that about 90 per cent of its sales are from online channels, while less than 10 per cent is offline.

As of today, Xiaomi ships its products to around 14,000 pin codes — close to 40 per cent of the country’s total — every single week.”

“This clearly highlights our presence in the Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. As we increase our focus on offline sales, we will further increase our penetration in these markets,” Xiaomi Vice President and Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Jain told IANS.

“We are now present in more than 8,500 stores via our innovative offline distribution network. Last year was indeed a great year and we achieved several milestones while building our India story,” he added.

The 20th CEO survey of multinational professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) based on 1,379 responses from 79 countries stated that people will work with machines in workplaces of the future rather than one replacing the other.

Global business leaders said that one of the biggest challenges for organizations is getting their people strategy right in an automated world where intelligent machines and robots will play an important role in most workplaces.

Middle East, Japan are new top job destinations

Gone are the days when international openings for graduates of Indian B-schools and engineering colleges were restricted to the US and the UK. Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among the countries hiring graduates from top Indian colleges, including the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Over the past five years, we have seen a definite shift. Postings in the US and the UK have become almost negligible, said Sapna Agarwal, head, career development services, IIM Bangalore. Postings in the Far East, including Singapore and Hong Kong, have increased. Japan is a new destination. The Middle East has been added as an overseas job destination.

Protectionist policies and economic distress in the West are among the reasons behind the spurt in popularity of Asian countries as job destinations among Indian graduates.

A vibrant culture, shortage of skilled workforce, proximity to home, better career prospects and flexible immigration norms are the key attractions. A number of foreign trade commissions are conducting road shows to promote opportunities for Indian students and professional in their respective countries, said Rohin Kapoor, director, Deloitte.

Employers to have optimistic hiring outlook : Report

Sixty seven percent (67%) employers/recruiters expect new jobs to be created in the coming 6-months amid a rising talent crunch according to a half-yearly survey conducted to gauge the hiring sentiment across companies and industries - Naukri's Hiring Outlook survey 2017. It states that they are cautiously optimistic about hiring outlook over the next six months and expect that there will be maximum job creation opportunities for 1-8 years experience range.

While there was optimism in terms of job creation and growth, there was also concern about the availability of talented jobseekers to fill the new job openings. Recruiters from industries like IT, ITES, BFSI, pharma, automobile and manufacturing are expecting the job market to move towards north. According to the survey, 25 per cent of respondents expect maximum jobs would be created in IT-Software sector, followed by BFSI and auto/auto ancillary (8 per cent each).
